Fluidr / A Red Avadavat female foraging on the roadside by Hari K Patibanda

A very colorful resident bird in the country, these are photographers favorite here. They are small birds, maybe around 10-11 cms and in breeding plumage look gorgeous red / strawberry color.

They are seen everywhere in the countryside now and some of them are in their prime breeding plumage with rich and deep colors while others are yet to show signs. The males start turning this color around late May / Early June till the end of the year. The females develop a golden / yellowish belly and breast area and they too look fabulous. Their songs could also be heard easily - its a very short sweet tweet, easy to distinguish. They will soon start building nests in dry bushes.
