29th January 2020 at the Recital Room, City Halls, Glasgow.
Celtic Connections Festival, www.celticconnections.com/.
Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.
Lineup: Mhairi Hall (p/harmonium).
Mhairi Hall is from Aviemore in Inverness-shire and now lives in Glasgow. The concert launched her new album "Airs" consisting of traditional tunes and her own compositions inspired by landscapes. As well as her piano playing, she made use of natural sounds, drones and extracts from archive recordings. The project was a collaboration with artist Beth Robertson Fiddes with images of her paintings projected on the wall behind Hall. I have taken photos of Hall as an accomanist at the Young Traditional Musician of The Year 20th Celebration at this festival (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157640669505793/) and in 2014 with Kathleen MacInnes (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157713007711566/). I have also seen Hall as an accompanist at the Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2018 final, with Patsy Reid in 2014, with her Trio (at the Festival Club) and as part of "Benbecula Night" both in 2010, and in a trio the Laurels with Jenn Butterworth and Mairearad Green in 2008.
