1st January 2020 at Royal Festival Hall (Clore Ballroom), London SE1.

Part of Winter Festival (free event).

Country: Britain. Style: Traditional American (Old Time) Folk.& other styles.

Lineup: Joe Buirski (caller/g), Jerry Bloom (fiddle), Stompin’ Dave Allen (banjo/v), Joe Hymas (g/mandolin), Steve Blake (fiddle/banjo ukulele), Becca Peace (whistle). Jolene Missing (b).

This New Year’s Day Ceilidh was run by Cut A Shine who have been organising dances for around a decade. Several of the band members were part of the group Kidnap Alice (Joe Buirski, Jerry Bloom, Joe Hymas) who I saw live in 2010. Mixed in with the called dances were a few songs from the band. The dances were mostly circle ones and from the USA. Even with those from Scotland, Ireland or French the band played the tunes with a strong American Hoedown feel. I have taken one photo of Joe Buirski before - a floorspot with Aaron Johah Lewis: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/6305558340/. More of Joe Hymas in a Leon Hunt group: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/joehymas,-cutashine/.
