7th November 2019 at the King and Queen, London W1.

Islington Folk Club, www.islingtonfolkclub.co.uk/ifc.html.

Country: Sweden. Style: Traditional Swedish.

Lineup: Anders Löfberg (fiddle/violino d'amore/cello/v).

Since 2004 musicians featured at an annual weekend instrumental workshop organised by Tania Simon has appeared at the Islington Folk Club the previous week. Nearly all have been Swedish fiddle players. I have now attended 12 of these Scandinavian Fiddle Nights.

Anders Löfberg is from Grönskåra in Småland, a province in the south of Sweden (and now lives in Stockholm) and plays the music of his province. He is a member of the groups Nordic (playing cello) and Majorstuen. As well as fiddle and cello he played a Violino d'Amore, a Swedish violin with sympathetic understrings related to the Norwgian Hardanger Fiddle and the Baroque Viola d'Amore. Noticing that all the floorspots involved singing, he also sang a few himself.

7th November 2019 at the King and Queen, London W1 (resident band at Anders Löfberg).

Islington Folk Club, www.islingtonfolkclub.co.uk/ifc.html.

Country: Britain. Style: English Country Dance.

Lineup: The band has a rotating lineup. On this night the band included (left to right) Nick Moran (bass clarinet), Alex Szyszkowski (concertina), Rob Twisse (harmonica), Syd Pochin (melodeon).

I have visited Islington Folk Club on over 60 occasions starting in 1995, so I must have seen the Angel Band something like the same number of times (I am not sure exactly when they became the club's resident band). This is the sixth time (the first in 2011) I have taken photos of them. For all the photos see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/angelband/. This is the smallest version of the band I can remember. just four (and down to three for their last set of tunes).
