26th October 2019 at the Clayton Crown Hotel (Galtymore Suite, previously callled Bentley Suite), London NW2 (supporting Noel Hill).
Return to London Town Festival (previously Camden Town), www.returntocamden.org/.
Country: Ireland. Style: Traditional Irish Folk.
Lineup: Johnny Óg Connolly (melodeon/button accordion), Clíodhna Costello (banjo), Padraig O Dubhghaill (g).
This trio play the music of Connemara. All live now in Galway. Johnny Óg Connolly was born in Preston (though his family moved back to Ireland seven years later), Clíodhna Costello in North Tipperary and Padraig O Dubhghaill in Inverin in the Connemara Gaeltacht. Connolly usually performs on a 2-row Button Accordion, but only played this on one set of tunes. He has recently been playing more Melodeon (the name is restricted to the 1-row instrument in Irish music) in honour of his father who no longer plays for health reasons. I saw father and son together at this festival in 2015 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157660488750821/).
