7th October 2019 at Kings Place (Hall One), London N1.

Country: United States. Style: Jazz - Modern.

Lineup: Carla Bley (p), Andy Sheppard (tenor sax/soprano sax), Steve Swallow (bass g).

Now aged 81 Carla Bley was born in Oakland, CA. Best known as a composer and her work with Big Bands. She has worked with Steve Swallow since he joined her group in 1978. This trio has come together from time to time since 1993. I have taken photos before of Andy Sheppard with his own group in 2014 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/andysheppard.-carl...). One of the wight times I have seen him live previously. These are my first photos of Bley and Swallow. However, I have seen Bley before with a quartet (billed as Carla Bley & the Lost Chords) which was this trio and a drummer and with Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, both in 2009. Plus Swallow another four times with John Scofield (twice), Gary Burton and Mike Gibbs. This concert consisted of Bley's compositions (all except for "Lawns" recent and many unreleased) and her arrangement of Thelonious Monk's "Misterioso".
