Part of Summer by the River (free event).

Country: La Réunion. Style: Maloya Power.

Lineup: Olivier Araste (v/pikèr/djembe/doun-doun), Lauriane Marceline (v/kayamb/caxixi/shekere), Aldo Araste (pikèr/balafon/claves), Itema Jimmy (keyboard/kayamb/piker), Emy Potonié (keyboard/pikèr/soprano sax), Madia Frédérick (djembe/doun-doun/kamale ngoni/talking drum/triangle), Servan Valéry (roulèr/drum kit), Mariama Pascal (drum kit/salti/roulèr/pikèr/keyboard) and guest: Kushal Gaya (v).

The band celebrate their 30th anniversary this year, Olivier Araste having formed the first version (a duo) in 1999. They play an updated version of Maloya, a traditional music of La Réunion, which they call Maloya Power. They perform this on traditional instruments of the island (roulèr, pikèr, kayamb, salti), African instruments they have come across on their travels (e.g. balafon, djembe, doun-doun, kamale ngoni, talking drum) and Western instruments (e.g. electromic keyboard, saxophone). They were briefly joined by the British based Mauritian musician Kushal Gaya from the band Zun Zun Egui.
