14th June 2019 at King and Queen, London W1.

“Musical Traditions Festival”, Musical Traditions Folk Club, www.englishfolkinfo.org.uk/mustrad/mtc.html.
Similar in format to the Keith Summers Festivals, these three days of sessions returned thanks to the financial support of Finbarr Wall. Attending for the weekend were 17 main guest singers and instrumentalists from England, Scotland, Ireland and the USA. With some additional "pop in" guests for a session or two. Plus a series of resident bands and floorspots.

The first of the four sessions on the Friday evening included most of the main guests and two resident bands.

Country: United States - Appalachia. Style: Traditional American Folk.

Lineup: Elizabeth LaPrelle (v/banjo), Sandra (Sandy) Lee Newlin LaPrelle (v).

Elizabeth LaPrelle is from Cedar Springs, just outside Rural Retreat in Southwest Virginia. I have photographed her before twice before (at this club and at Sidmouth) in the duo Anna and Elizabeth with Anna Roberts-Gevalt (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/elizabethlaprelle,...). This time she was joined by the first person she sang with, her mother Sandy Newlin LaPrelle.

Country: Britain. Style: Traditional English Folk.

Lineup: Mat Green (fiddle), Andy Turner (concertina/v).

I have taken photos before of this duo from Oxfordshire at this club (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157679915059012/) and of the two of them as part of the larger Magpie Lane.
