This was the 11th Redwood City Salsa Festival. This Food and Music Festival organised by the City Coucil takes place on and around Broadway oin the Downtown area. As vwell as Salsa and Tequila tasting, there is music on three outdoor stages - Salsa, Latin Jazz, and Reggae.

Ed Johnson was born in San Francisco, and was raised and lived for many years in Palo Alto (he now resides in Menlo Park). He is co-owner of the Gryphon Stringed Instruments store in Palo Alto, and in the 1990s was part of an offshoot Folk group the Gryphon Quintet. He formed Novo Tempo in 2002 and it mostly performs original compositions in Portuguese.

This group from San Francisco was formed in 2008 and is one of several projects of the conguero Javier Cabanillas. He is from the Bay Area and of Mexican descent. Here they were joined by vocalists from venezuela and France.
