Sidmouth Folk Week

Country: Ireland. Style: Irish Traditional Folk.

Lineup: Kevin Rowsome (uilleann pipes), Lorraine Rowsome (fiddle), Naoise Rowsome (uilleann pipes/v).

The Rowsomes (originally from Wexford before moving to Dublin) have been pipers for six generations. The best known of them was Leo (1903-1970) who was recorded in the 1020s-40s. The tradition is carried on by his grandson Kevin. He was joined here by his daughter Naoise (aged 15) and wife Lorraine (on fiddle). Another daughter Tierna plays the pipes and regularly performs with the family group, but was absent due to college commitments.
