13th November 2017 at Cadogan Hall (Culford Room), London SW1.
'Round about Two-Thirty series (free event) / London Jazz Festival, www.londonjazzfestival.org.uk/.
Country: Britain & Denmark (British resident). Style: Jazz - Modern.
Lineup: Mark Lockheart (tenor sax/soprano sax), Liam Noble (p), Jasper Høiby (b).
This group (whose name is derived from the first two letters of the members' first names) performed together as part of a quintet on Mark Lockheart's 2009 "In Deep" album. I saw the In Deep group live twice in 2009-10 at the Clore Ballroom in the Royal Festival Hall (though with a different pianist there) and at the Oxford in Kentish Town. They came together as Malija in 2014, this time as a trio without a trumpet player and drummer. I have previously taken photos of Lockheart and Noble, both of them together in a Lockheart Quartet and the former with Polar Bear and Loose Tubes and the latter with Julian Siegel and Bobby Wellins, see www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/marklockheart,-mal... and www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/liamnoble,-malija/.
