7th May 2011 at the Fair Grounds Race Course (Blues Tent), New Orleans, USA.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, www.nojazzfest.com/.

Country: United States - New Orleans. Style: R and B.

Lineup James Andrews (v/trumpet), Brian J (g), Josh Charles (keyboard), Eric Bolivar (d), Chauncey Yearwood (congas), Karen Andrews (v) plus trumpet, tenor sax, trombone and bass guitar.

If anyone can identify the missing members of the lineup, particularly horn section, I would be most grateful.

James Andrews was born in 1969 in Treme. He is the grandson of Jessie Hill and nephew of Walter “Papoose” Nelson and Lawrence “Prince La La” Nelson. His younger bother, Troy, and various cousins are also musicians. He started out as a teenager in Roots of Jazz (formed by Danny Barker) and his own All Star Brass Band. For a time, he was a member of the Treme and New Birth Brass Bands. Since the 1990s he has led his own band, combining elements of R and B and Jazz. On his latest album “The Big Time Stuff” he is joined by members of the Brooklyn-based Pimps of Joytime (Brian J, Chauncey Yearwood) who played at this gig.

4th May 2014 at the Fair Grounds Race Course (Blues Tent), New Orleans, USA.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, www.nojazzfest.com/.

Country: United States - New Orleans. Style: R and B.

Lineup: James Andrews (v/trumpet), Karen Andrews (v), June Yamaguchi (g), Jason Mingledorff (baritone sax), Tom Fitzpatrick (tenor sax), Greg Hicks (trombone) , plus unidentified trumpet, trombone, organ, bass guitar, drums, tambourine and guests: Baby Dolls.
If anyone can identify the missing members of the lineup, I would be most grateful.

James Andrews is part of an extended family of musicians which includes his brother Tory (“Trombone Shorty”) and numerous cousins. The band were joined on stage by the Baby Dolls (who hare reviving a tradition dating back to the early 20th century of women masquerading as little baby girls). I took photos of the band 3 years ago: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157626950218829/.

2nd July 2011 at Under the Bridge, London SW6.

Bluesfest London 2011, www.bluesfestlondon.com/.

Country: United States - New Orleans. Style: R and B.

Lineup: Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews (trombone/trumpet/v), Tim McFatter (tenor sax), Dan Oestricher (baritone sax), Pete Murano (g), Mike Ballard (bass g), Joey Peebles (d), Dwayne Williams (congas).
For their encore they swapped instruments, and lined up as: Ballard (trumpet), Williams (trombone), Murano (tenor sax), Peebles (g), McFatter (bass g), Andrews (d), Oestricher (congas).>/i>

Troy Andrews was born in Treme in 1986. He is 16 years younger than his older brother, James Andrews. He took up the trombone at a very early age (his first out of town gig with James was aged 4). It was soon after that his brother gave him his moniker, so it has nothing to do with his current height. Aged 7 he lead his first band (Tiny Toones Brass Band), followed by the Trombone Shorty Brass Band. Later he was part of the New Birth Brass Band. Troy Andrews moved away from brass Band music with Orleans Avenue, initially formed with a number of fellow students at NOCCA (New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts).

1st May 2011 at the Fair Grounds Race Course (Blues Tent), New Orleans, USA.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, www.nojazzfest.com/.

Country: United States - New Orleans. Style: R and B.

Lineup: Glen David Andrews (v/trombone), Calvin Johnson (tenor sax), Paul Sanchez (g), Kyle Roussel (keyboards), Barry Stephenson (bass g), Jermal Watson (d), Howard “Smiley” Ricks (congas), Franklin Davis IV (v), Karen Green (v) and guests: Marcia Ball (p), Amanda Shaw (fiddle).

Glen David Andrews was born in 1980 and grew up in Treme as part of the extended family of Brass Band musicians. Derrick Tabb is his brother and James, Troy, Revert, Terence and Glen Joseph Andrews are cousins. He started out playing Bass Drum and switched to Trombone as a member of the Troy Andrews Brass Band. He has played with the New Birth, Lil Rascals and Treme bands. The first band he led was the Lazy Six (with a more typical Brass Band instrumentation including sousaphone, Bass and Snare Drums). These days he concentrates on his vocals and barely plays any Trombone. The size and enthusiasm of the audience in the Blues Tent demonstrated the impact of his appearances in the HBO series Treme. He is very good at working an audience, often throwing in some crowd surfing.
