Our story began in my mom’s kitchen, nearly 40 years ago................................ (She and Dad were hippies who came to Salt Spring Island to escape the rat race.) Mom didn’t like the chemicals and additives she found in everyday soaps, so she made her own. Something about her natural soaps worked for people. She found interest at craft shows, the Saltspring Saturday Market, and in hundreds of shops around the country. Soon enough, she was exporting soap to Japan, introducing skin care options, and opening her own retail shops.

For a family-run company, our products sure have gone a long way! I remember a quote from Mom, back in 1980. She said that her company would, “be environmentally conscious, stay small, and support the community.”

This doesn’t sound like a big deal any longer, but I think it was kind of visionary for the time. I’m Gary. My wife Amber, and I, carry on the Saltspring Soapworks tradition, today. We still make our soaps and skincare products, here on beautiful Salt Spring Island. We formulate, source, mix, and package our products by hand. And we continue to use good ingredients that are easy on the environment—just like Mom did! Thanks for believing in us and for being a part of our story.
