I know the magma plume is under Yellowstone at the moment, but at one time it was back under the Tetons ... the clouds that were around that evening were magnificent, and I have a wide (17mm) 10 image stitch of them taken at 1/200s exposure handheld. Here is a single image taken with the 10mm with the bulb capture. The result is what the super volcano may have looked like when exploding ;)

Six minute exposure at String Lake. Set this one up with this nice patch of grass along the bank of the lake. Liked the way the grass was sticking out of the water ... into the reflection there.

While taking shots there at Oxbow Bend early in the morning, just as the fog was clearing I was noticing that as things brightened, it was time to add some ND filters to keep the long exposures constant without having to decrease the aperture anymore.

I went and added my 9-stop ND filter and recalculated in my head the number of stops to increase the aperture and then adjust the time a little. Must have been some sleep deprivation kicking in, or the higher elevation with less oxygen, but my calculations were off by at least two stops. One the shot was done I could tell from the histogram that this one was way undercooked. Having a nice big 32GB card, I decided not to trash the file.

It is always fun to see what can be recovered from LR-4 with under and over exposed images. I was able to bring this exposure up by 2 times, but still kept it higher contrast and dark as the noise was becoming pretty noticable. In the end, though, I really liked the way this shot looked. A nice dark image that represents the early early morning hours when I was there and needed the flashlight ;)

A little creative WB treatment here. I could not be everywhere prior to sunrise with only two days at the Grand Tetons. Here is one of the long exposures taken at String Lake just north of Jenny Lake that was taken about 1/2 hour after sunrise. The opposite of adjusting blue hour WB to get a warmer image, here I "cooled" the WB down more towards 4000K to make the warmer scene appear as it would in Blue Hour (prior to sunrise).

This worked pretty well here as the sun was not shining strongly through the clouds during this capture.

Four minute exposure at Jenny Lake in the Grand Tetons National Park. Liked the way this one turned out with the streaming clouds and the smoothed out choppy lake water. The vertical comp I think works well here getting us close to the rocks, but focusing in on the split there in the mountain range.
