This guy was busy on my onion blossoms in the garden this afternoon. Call me stupid (and a lot of people do sometimes), but I rubbed its back with my finger.

I was out early this morning in my garden picking some green beans and tomatoes to take to my wife's family in Maryland. (We're leaving this evening). As I was working, I noticed this little bug all by itself on the dew-covered vines. Of course, I had to run back in the house to get my trusty Nikon to capture its beauty. Hope you like it.
Thanks to all my "regulars" who visit and comment on nearly all my photos. I appreciate your feedback. I'll be in Maryland for the rest of the week, but hopefully I'll be able to do some Flickring while I'm there.

I noticed this morning that there was a lot of grasshoppers in the dead wildflowers along the back of my house. After getting my camera, I saw this little booger sitting on my waterhose and thought it would make a good shot. I took several from the side but they didn't really satisfy me, so I tried to take some looking down the hose. This was difficult because the spigot was just above it and almost blocking my view. (And of course, I smacked my glasses against it first thing). I finally managed to get my camera with a +4 macro filter in front of the spigot without scaring the grasshopper off. Unfortunately, I couldn't put my eye up to the viewfinder because of the said spigot. Luckily I could see just enough to give some semblance of focus. By the ways, my knees are a little bit less cranky (and, yes, I' m still just as cranky as always)today, but still stiff and sore. Hope you like the shot.

O.K. folks, if you want a little practice, have a lot of fun, and not cost you a dime, you need to join this group. If you are familiar with Jenna Whidby (Whidbychick's Photostream), she has started this workshop with weekly assignments. If you have never visited her photostream...do so. Every single photo comes with its own lengthy story that will keep you mesmerized. (Warning: if you do not have a sense of humor, especially when aimed at one's self, you will never understand). This is a chance to hone our skills with no strings attached! Come on...take a chance and enjoy!
I was asked about the story behind this photo. Saturday, when I was "out back" (please see previous posting for the explanation of this southernism), looking for something to photograph among my dead and dying flowers, I found this bug hanging tightly to the underneath of leaf. (And you can tell the leaf is not in the best of health...like I said...the flowers were dying). I thought it (I don't know if it is a he or she) would make a nice shot, even though it didn't smile for me like the grasshopper did.
