Rust is probably one of the most romantic towns in Austria. The proximity to Hungary cannot be denied in the architecture of the low houses. The many stork nests on the chimneys of the old town make Rust something very special. Storks and Burgenland belong together. For example, Rust committed himself to protecting these special stilt birds many years ago, and the stork is also the secret symbol of the city.
But there is something else that Rust is known for beyond the borders of Burgenland: the wine. Not a few top winemakers in Austria press their wine in the vineyards in Rust. Many of them also offer direct sales on their farms, which are usually preceded by a detailed wine tasting.
