This isn't actually from my first day, but I don't have any photos or videos of my first day, so this the next best thing: a slightly shakey forward launch, a few minutes after my last launch attempt, which ended up with my wing in a tree behind the camera.

I've finally got round to blogging about the paragliding licence course I did back in February, read more about it over on my blog: Today, I Learn to Fly

This was me yesterday afternoon, reverse-launching from Mystic. How easy does that look?!

or at least looking in the general direction of it - Bennachie is in the distance to the left: check the clouds welling out of nowhere above it towards the end of the sequence.

After my first attempt at time-lapse photgraphy I vouched to try it in a more photographic location than the view out my window in Aberdeen. So here I am, in a field, up a hill in the Garioch - much better.

I did notice, when I jumped into this field, that there were signs of cows being there recently so I made sure that I had everything (2 cameras, 5 lenses, a tripod and a laptop) ready for a very quick getaway. What I didn't notice was that the only trough in the field is in the lower right of my frame so, sure enough, half an hour in and I had to bolt back across the fence as a few dozen thirsty cows charged down the hill towards me.

So, in the end, I got 356 frames, totalling about 29.5 minutes. All frames shot at 1/320 f/8 ISO100.

Certainly worth viewing in 'HD', I think.

As a cyclist, I don't really like windy days, but as a photographer I think they're gold. When I looked up at the sky and got that moment of dizzyness, as my legs tried to work out if the clouds zipping past meant I really was on a earth-sized rollercoaster, I remembered one of my photographic todo's and got the camera hooked up and locked down.

400 frames later and I've got quite a pleasing cloud sequence, although the colours look distinctly drab when viewed above my latest cloud photo. For the next one, I definitely need to clean my neglected 350's sensor and get out in the countryside (this is the view from my living room in Aberdeen).

Canon EOS 350D: Av / Eval metering / -2/3EV, Sigma 10-20mm / f/8

Oh and the sequence was glued together with StarTrails, which can also be used to create a single still star trail image from a sequence of shorter exposures.
