It is not often that Pheasants are seen at the Dungeness RSPB . This image was taken in a heavy early morning mist at a distance of about 10 feet (3mtrs)

I hope to make a small series over the next week or two of Kent UK butterflies I have some to post it will be fun to find out how long I can Keep going with no repeats if I upload one image a day . Starting now > Number 1 Peacock Number 2 Gatekeeper (female) A little over exposed but I think the brightness adds to the colours

When I got to the area that I hoped to see the young birds again I climbed the old over grown path (the top of which had long ago fallen into the sea) to an area that gave me plenty of cover. The young birds were there on a ledge on the cliff facing me . They took no notice of me at all as I hid away to watch them . very soon both parents came into veiw they called to the young and one jumped off the cliff and made a short ungainly flight returning to the ledge within a few wing beats Then it was the turn of the other 3 young all within seconds of each other they were in the air for a few moments landing safely (though one scrabbled at the edge of the cliff on his way back . One adult settled with them and as it was getting quite dark by now I quietly left . I wonder If I watched their first ever flights !! The next evening I returned but the ledge was bare and I just made out 2 falcons in flight in the distance .
