Stratford-upon-Avon is famous for its graceful swans gliding along the River Avon, adding to the town’s picturesque charm. These majestic birds are a common sight near Bancroft Gardens and along the riverside, where visitors often stop to admire them. Swans are protected by law in the UK, and traditionally, they have been associated with the Crown.
Locals and tourists alike enjoy feeding the swans, though it’s important to use swan-friendly food rather than bread, which can be harmful to them. The river is also home to other wildlife, including coots, tufted ducks, herons, and even the occasional kingfisher. If you’re looking for a peaceful way to experience the swans up close, a canal and river tour offers a unique perspective, with the swans often following the boats along the water.
Have you visited Stratford-upon-Avon before, or are you planning a trip? It’s a fantastic spot for photography, especially with the reflections of the swans on the water.

This underground public transport elevator, built in 1919, is New Zealand’s only public transport elevator and remains in daily use.
To access it, visitors walk through a 213-meter pedestrian tunnel before boarding the elevator for a 66-meter vertical ride to the top of Durie Hill. The elevator was originally constructed to support the development of the Durie Hill Garden Suburb, which was planned by architect Samuel Hurst Seager and is considered New Zealand’s first modern suburb.
If you're looking for something closer to Wellington, there are several tall buildings in the city, but none seem to match the description of a tower with a 60-meter underground elevator. However, Wellington does have historic underground walkways, such as those at Willis Lane, which have been transformed into a subterranean hub for dining and entertainment.

Amazing blue skies and green hills, pleased with this capture when originally taken, but i took yet another in B&W

Photographing churches on the hills of Iceland is a rewarding experience, blending striking architecture with dramatic landscapes. Here are some key tips to capture them beautifully:
1. Golden Hour Magic
Iceland’s long daylight hours in summer and soft winter light create stunning conditions. Aim for sunrise or sunset to get warm, directional lighting that enhances textures and contrasts.
2. Composition & Perspective
- Use leading lines like roads or paths to guide the viewer’s eye toward the church.
- Frame the church against mountains or open skies for a sense of scale.
- Experiment with low angles to emphasize the elevation of the church on the hill.
3. Weather & Atmosphere
Iceland’s weather is unpredictable, but mist, snow, or dramatic clouds can add mood to your shots. A polarizing filter helps reduce glare and deepen sky colors.
4. Iconic Churches to Photograph
- Búðakirkja (Budir Black Church) – A striking black wooden church on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
- Akureyrarkirkja – A modernist church perched on a hill in Akureyri.
- Thingvalla Kirkja – One of Iceland’s oldest churches, located in Thingvellir National Park.
