They say I'm a woman
they say I'm black-
I say I'm a mother
with my baby
asleep on my back.
I can plough the earth
I can harvest the trees
I can tame the flies and the bees
I can climb the mountain
I can cross the lake
I can frighten lion and snake
I can do without riches
I can do without rain
I can kill the fear and the pain
I can bear any burden
I can face any lack
as long as my baby
is asleep on my back.

Keep right on to the end of the road,
Keep right on to the end.
Tho' the way be long,
let your heart be strong,
Keep right on round the bend.
Tho' you're tired and weary
Still journey on
Till you come to your happy abode,
Where all you love
you've been dreaming of
Will be there at the end of the road.
