I meet this woman in the small mountain village of Vradeto in Epirus (altitude: 1340 m).
This kind woman was the only remaining inhabitant of this village after it was abandoned for many years and almost completely ruined.
The reason for the abandonment of the village was that the only way to approach it (until the recent construction of an asphalt road), was a staircase with 1100 steps engraved in the vertical rock of the mountain.

In her figure are well written the firmness and stoutness of character which characterize the hardened inhabitants of the Epirus mountains, who deserve our estimation and great respect.
