Ruff bird (Philomachus pugnax) is a wading bird that breeds in marshes and wet meadows across northern Eurasia.
It is very impressive to observe the variety of strategies of the males to obtain mating opportunities at a lek, by erecting their spectacular colorful head and neck feathers, as part of the elaborate main courting display.
Their scientific name “Philomachus” consist of the Greek words “philo” and “machi” meaning somebody who likes fighting.
