Renowned architect, Paul Revere Williams, designed this English Country Manor in 1927. Williams borrowed ideas from the past without using excessive ornamentation and, according to one critic; he was "the last word in elegant traditionalism." This revered residence remains a celebrated illustration of English Period Revival at its best.
The Architect
Paul R. Williams, an African-American, became renowned for designing major buildings such as the Federal Office Building, LA County Courthouse, Union Station, Saks Fifth Avenue, the Beverly Hills Hotel and over 2,000 homes in Southern California. He was known as the "architect to the stars" and designed homes for Cary Grant, Groucho Marx, Lauren Bacall, Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra, Danny Thomas, Humphrey Bogart, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Tyrone Powers and dozens more.
