Il fiore narciso deve il suo nome al mito narrato dal poeta Ovidio, che racconta la storia di un bellissimo giovane, di nome Narciso, incapace di amare gli altri. Narciso, vedendo la sua immagine riflessa nell’acqua di un fiume, si innamora perdutamente di se stesso ma, vista l’impossibilità di baciarsi, decide di trafiggersi con una spada. Dal sangue versato per questo amore impossibile nasce il fiore che porta il suo nome, segno di rinascita e di rinnovamento.

The narcissus flower owes its name to the myth narrated by the poet Ovid, who tells the story of a beautiful young man, named Narcissus, incapable of loving others. Narcissus, seeing his image reflected in the water of a river, falls madly in love with himself but, given the impossibility of kissing, decides to stab himself with a sword. From the blood shed for this impossible love comes the flower that bears his name, a sign of rebirth and renewal.

A Ruby-crowned Kinglet contemplates a meal of aphids. I got out this morning for a beautiful morning after our storms last night. There were a few warblers, vireos, and thrushes around, but mostly there were kinglets. Many, many everywhere, and some even sat still for a moment or two, such as this one. He had already consumed some before this shot (note one clinging to his bill), and he went back for more. This one is from the Gaddy Garden in Tower Grove Park, St Louis.
