The 44 m tall Torre Guinigi was and still is the most important tower in Lucca, and one of the very few examples left in the region. It was built for the Guinigi family who once ruled over Lucca and defended the city against the Medici of Florence, which helped Lucca retain its independence until the 18th century. The tower has become one of the city's most famous symbols, especially thanks to its rooftop garden that can be seen from all over the city.

The Duomo (or Cathedral) of San Martino was founded in the VI century. It was rebuilt around 1060 and renewed between the XII and the XIII centuries. The interior was rebuilt in the 14th and 15th centuries.

One of many shots I made during our Lucca visit. But posting them all would be ridiculous.

Piazza Anfiteatro is a unique location, quite unlike any other square in the world. Located at the heart of Lucca, one of Tuscany's best kept jewels with its medieval walls and its perfectly preserved architecture, Piazza Anfiteatro conveys a sense of mystery and fascination. It is built on an ancient Roman amphitheater, hence its name, and most of all its striking circular plan.In the course of the centuries, houses were built on the Roman ruins, and in 1830 the arena was transformed into a marketplace. Piazza Anfiteatro was then gradually abandoned, before being rediscovered in recent years. Today it is one of Lucca's favorite tourist spots, and it has lost nothing of its unique charm.
