Progress on my first home-made kite - an 8' Rokkaku. It will be made out of white ripstop nylon with the red Japanese "Rising Sun" disc or Nisshoki to make it obvious where this ancient design comes from. I estimate its completion to be at the end of this week (around the 18th Feb. 2007). And oh, wouldn't that be great...

Don't like the looks of brass ferrules but love heat-shrinkable tubing. I used it as a state-of-the-art finishing touch to camouflage the brass. Here you see both 8mm glass fiber spreaders. Inside the spreaders I placed some inches of carbon fiber tubing.
(These spars have already been replaced by carbon versions. I used the same finishing methods.)

Floating during the Maiden Flight of the Rokkaku. I know that some minor bridle adjustments need to be done, but decided to let it climb to approx. 50 meters a.g.l.
