Bagnoregio is a small town in Lazio, just across the border from Umbria about 28 kilometres (22 miles) south by road from Orvieto. The current town was a suburb of the original hill town, now empty except for a handful of inhabitants. Civita di Bagnoregio, ‘the dying city’, is famous and its rather spectacular setting. Visiting Civita is one of the main reasons most people come to Bagnoregio today.
