These roof figurines, yan shou (檐獸), literally 'roof eaves beasts', on the Hall for Preserving Harmony. They are on many of the buildings in the Forbidden City Palace (GuGong).

The front figure (on right here) is of a man riding a phoenix, while the last (on left) is a dragon. In between are various mythical animals.

On the the most important buildings like this one, the Hall for Preserving Harmony, there are 9 figures in between. Only on one building, the Hall of Supreme Harmony, are there are ten. The number decreases with the importance of the building.
