There are lots of ice plants near the beech. This one was by the walk/bike path.
Although it is now quite common along the California coast, the ice plant is not native to California, but originates from South Africa.

Near downtown Ventura is the town’s main beach. On this sandy beach stands an old wooden pier; first built in 1872. The pier was the oldest and longest wooden pier in California.
The recent severe storms (in January and February 2023) have damaged at least 10 of the wooden supporting posts. Some repairs have been made, but more work needs to be done. Except for the section closest to the shore, the pier was closed when I visited.

Ventura Beach just south of the pier had a lot of driftwood debris from the series of big storms that has hit California in the early months of 2023.
