Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Mo. The migrating snow geese were this thick for about 100-150 yards both directions from the photo. Not as many as other times, but still about 350,000 there that morning. The sound is amazing with that many beating wings, almost deafening. Have seen as many as 1.6 million another time. Always in awe.

Incoming layers of Snow Geese at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Missouri. Can make you feel a little dizzy looking up and seeing the layers of snow geese arriving with each layer flying in different direction. The sound is always incredible, as well.

The refuge had frozen over on a 10 degree morning with high winds. The snow geese were streaming in in large groups by the 10's of thousands, and wave after wave. Always very impressive. Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge

With about 1 million migrating snow geese either on the water or arriving, tens of thousands will suddenly peel off the water with a loud burst of wings and sounds that is nearly deafening. They then settle down again only to repeat the amazing display over and over. Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Mo. Only a portion of the geese are shown here, with them extending hundreds of yards in both directions and the sky full, as well. The sound is just unbelievable.
