This plane, a 2009 from Embraer in Brazil is operated by Marcplan Charter based at Essendon Airport in Victoria, Australia.

Under the tail of the plane is the remains of Castle Rock, above Heathcote Valley, the appearance of which changed drastically after the September 4 2010 and February 22 2011 earthquakes. This is across the other side of the city from the airport (about 18-20km direct line). On the far left is the upper gondola station building where a few of my photos a month or two ago were taken from. Between the front hills (gondola - Castle Rock) and the background hills is Lyttelton Harbour, the port for Christchurch.

It left Christchurch again on 25/04 (back to Australia?), so I suspect that on this plane was the band Aerosmith, heading to Dunedin for a performance on 24/04.

In the distance is the TV transmission tower on Sugar Loaf. In four days time it will cease broadcasting an analogue signal, with the South Island switching to complete digital TV.

Also note the two people absailing down the control tower (just above the tailplane). and one on the roof. Workmen or exercise?
