July 27th 1974, onboard an Air New Zealand DC8 from Auckland to Nadi (Fiji). This is a scan from a transparency (slide). Shot with an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II and 50mm f1.4 standard lens (when a camera had a 50 - 55mm lens as standard - no good zooms in those days).

This was also my first international flight. Subsequently I have been back to Fiji about 20 times, Australia at least 4 times, Canada/USA once and one trip to Rarotonga.

October 13th 1974, and I am already aboard a NAC (National Airways Corporation) Boeing 737 for my flight to Christchurch (returning home after eight days in Fiji). This was shot through the plane window.

ZK-NZA is Air New Zealand's first DC-8 (a DC-8-52) and DC-8s were operated from 1965 through to 1981, the later couple of years mainly in freight operation.

In the right background construction is underway on Auckland's new International terminal, and directly behind the ZK-NZA is a nearly brand new DC-10-30 (Air NZ started getting these in 1973).

I twice flew from Christchurch to Nadi, Fiji on DC-8 flights. They operated on Tuesday and Thursday evening and left Christchurch about 6:00pm, with a short stop in Wellington and then direct to Nadi.

Most likely 28th March 1987 (still trying to track down the records for this roll of slides).
Two Boeing 737-200 (before hush kits were applied) as well as a Mount Cook Hawker Siddeley HS748 and at one of the few international gates a Boeing 747-200.

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II, 85mm lens, slide film, scanned on an Epson V700

Arriving to runway #23 at Auckland (AKL). Shot with Canon EOS300 camera (film) on colour negative film. Scanned on an Epson V700.

Airline: Air New Zealand
Aircraft: Boeing 767-204(ER)
Location: Auckland International Airport (AKL/NZAA)
Country: New Zealand
Registration: ZK-NBJ
Name: Awarua
CN: 23250
Age: 17 Years (March 1985)

This aircraft was ordered by Britannia Airways Ltd and entered service as G-BLKW in March 1985.

Withdrawn from service in August 1990, converted to a -204ER configuration and sold to Air New Zealand (September 1990).
Aircraft name with Air New Zealand was 'Awarua' (Two Rivers).

Three times it was leased to LOT Polskie Linie Lotnicze, and once to Britannia.

Was painted all white for a lease to Air Atlanta Iceland, but lease never taken up, so stayed in white with Air New Zealand titles and Koru on the tail.

Withdrawn from service in November 2002 (ten months after I photographed it) and was later used at Auckland International Airport for emergency procedures training
