After the second fire (23/01/05) in the old Farmers Building (built 1882) in Cashel Street. Cashel Street was closed for nearly three weeks at this location while the fire was extinguised and urgent demolition took place. This was all demolished and the section to the left now has a seven-story tax department building. Photo taken from where I worked for 36 years.

The old (or is that the new) Inland Revenue Department (IRD) building on the corner of Madras and Cashel Streets in central Christchurch. Built in 2006/07 on the site of the former Farmers department store (itself badly damaged by fire), it was just a few years old when the earthquake of February 2011 struck, and subsequent quakes (all through 2011) have further damaged the building. It is also within the proposed new "green frame" for the new smaller central business district.
The photo is taken from what would have been outside the building I spent 36 years working in (and at one point was a shareholder in the company that owned the building) - now a car park lot.

From 2006 when work was just starting on the large IRD building in Christchurch. Three cranes, a bit reminiscent of current times with the de-construction of the city centre, and cranes everywhere.
