Six minutes after official sunset, but about 10 minutes after the sun went down, an Air New Zealand 737 jet streaks overhead Christchurch, on what was most likley a Dunedin to Wellington flight, still in sunshine. Still a small blip with a 400mm lens.

A very rare sight over Christchurch (and Canterbury). A C17 at altitude flying "over" from south to north. Most C17 operations here are USA aircraft arriving from USA or Antarctica, and leaving for same destinations. A bit of research found that one had visited Queenstown (ZQN) for 2 hours earlier in the day and was later seen in Auckland, hence this track north. But was it USAF or RAAF? We don't see very many four engine jets flying over so I ran to the car to get the 100-400 for this shot. Crop from image with lens at 400mm. Note the shadow of the T tail on the vapor trail just behind the plane. When I initially saw this through the camera I thought it was the tail, and the plane was longer and thought it may be a C5.
