Not the earliest picture of me, but the first in colour. That is me driving my pedal car with my sister Joanne as a passenger. From late 1959 or early 1960. Obviously I did not take the photo. I understand that it was taken by my father's friend (Ross Kavanagh) who was in the Merchant Navy, but later became a Priest (or similar). It is on Kodachrome slide film, and the slide is no. 15, and that predates any other slides I have by at least 12 years.

Stringer's Bridge, inland from Amberley, North Canterbury. Most likely January or early February 1971. The Kodachrome slide mount has a Feb 71 processing date stamp on it. Shot with a Kodak Instamatic (a proper one with a good lens, not a plastic toy!).
Included in the photo (taken by my father) is my great uncle, my sister, my mother and myself.

That is me (nearly 17 years old), about to head to Auckland from Christchurch for the 1971 Xmas/summer holidays, on my first jet flight (my previous North Island trips had been via Viscount and/or DC3). I am carrying my school satchel, tent poles (they couldn't go as checked luggage) and a 120 Agilux Agifold camera. This is about 18 months before I got my first new camera - an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II. I even had to wear a tie (just to fly to Auckland)!

If I remember correctly this was about 10 days before Xmas (after high school had finished for the year), so it is possible that there is exactly a 40 year gap (to the day) between the photo being taken and image being uploaded to Flickr.

The airline was NAC (National Airways Corp) which later merged into Air New Zealand (NAC was domestic, ANZ was international). Note that this was years before air bridges!

I needed my tent as I was to spend several weeks at Kennedy Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula with my aunt and uncle (they only had a 1 bedroom bach, so I had my pup tent).

The photo (a bit dirty, but will replace when I get a cleaned up scan) was shot on Kodachrome slide film with a British Kodak Instamatic by my Dad.

Hard to believe that five years later I was married and a seasoned traveller with five trips to Fiji.

Just the 10th image recorded (on film) on my then new Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II with Takumar 50mm lens. So new was the camera that I was still to get it. My father shot this in Sigatoka, Fiji in early August 1972 while on holiday there. Fiji was duty free in those days and a camera like this (Spotmatic) was a lot cheaper than in New Zealand with duty and sales tax applied.

Outside a movie theatre that shows both English and Hindi (later called Bollywood) films. When I saw these slides for the first time (August 1972) little did I know that within 26 months I would be going to see Hindi movies and within four years would be married to an Indo-Fijian.
