A Sydenham player bravely holds on to a rampant Hornby player in the Canterbury Rugby Football Junior Metro competition game between the two teams in thee Under 8 (Section A) grade today at Waltham Park.
Hornby were up 15-0 (3 tries to nil) at half time, but lost the second half (2 tries to 4), and managed to hold on for a 25-20 win. There are no conversions (or attempts) in this grade, as they often play on half size fields with no goal posts.

The coach (possibly a Fijian) of the Christchurch Football Club (rugby not soccer) junior team that Hornby played in the second of today's two grading games. Hornby won 30-10 in both games, First games was against Burnside and second against Christchurch.

Easter 2021 marks 100 years of the New Brighton Rugby Football Club and a special weekend was held with various games held on Friday and Saturday. After a family gathering (my sister and her husband are down in Christchurch visiting their daughter for the weekend) I managed to get to most of the second half of the final game, between the New Brighton senior side playing in a retro black strip against Linwood. Unfortunately New Brighton went down 17-12 in this game.
I never played club rugby (I played football/soccer instead) but Alastair played for New Brighton for about five seasons till a back injury forced an early retirement.
He avoided the "family gathering" and photographed both Saturday games,
