Filmed from the hill closest to the volcanic cone. At the time of my visit, the volcano erupted every 7-10 minutes for a length of about 2 minutes. In the mean time, the volcano has changed its pattern and alternates between a long steady flow potentially lasting for hours and calm periods.

This photo was taken on Theater Hill, the viewpoint closest to the Geldingadalir volcanic cone. At that time, this hill was a peninsula in the lava field accessible via an isthmus enclosed on both sides by the lava. A couple of days later, this isthmus was overflooded by lava and now the hill is only accessible by helicopter.

- add silica, aluminium oxide, ferric oxide, calcium oxide and dashes of other metallic oxides
- raise the pressure in the pot until the mixture erupts
- eat cautiously while hot

At the time of my visit, guards were still taking care that people didn't get too close to the lava and measured the emissions.

With the current extent of the lava field, this task has become impossible. Seeing all those fame hunters climbing fresh lava, odds are growing that one of them will win the Darwin award.
