The crown jewel of East Broad Top experience was the machine shop. The structure dates from the 1880s, with an addition added about 1910. For a small railroad, the shop was extensive. Over 200 EBT coal hoppers were built there, as well as other cars.

A steam engine powered overhead line shafts, which operated all the machines on the floor through various pulleys and belts. The system still works today, but it is no longer steam-powered. Compressed air is now used to power the line shafts for demonstration purposes. Video by Joe McMillan.
