The night sky along the southern coast of Florida where I was camping was totally without light pollution form any city. Although this was a full moon phase, I waited until the moon set (around 5AM) and then began moving along the beach to capture the Milky Way.

I actually captured the moon set first since I was up, which appears much like a sunset with the alpine glow of colors.

There so many different things I wanted to try and originally planed on 4 or 5 days in which to try different types of light painting, but the weather had other plans. I used a small AA flashlight to light paint here.

Folks the storyline of this unique photo adventure is completed and posted on my Blog (link below).I have incorporated some photos of the aftermath as well as some of the better images that will eventually make their way in Flickr. My beached high and dry boat with the waves coming in over the bow alone is worth taking a look. This will NEVER happen again.

The sunset on day one was not much to look at because there were few clouds. I decide to try using a very long exposure using two - 3 stop ND filters and one graduated ND filter to tame the upper portion of the sky.

One of the problems when stacking my filters like this I have to use a manual color balance setting of 6250 K. This gave me a better baseline in which to fine tune the overall color balance in Adobe Camera RAW.

A receding tide, a fireball sun sinking into the horizon was my backdrop to the of waning day one. Although not much in the way of some nice clouds to make the composition more interesting, I decide to add a texture screen over this image and reduced it's opacity to give just a hint of something there.

I was only able to capture the moon set on one morning, but both would have looked much the same. This was near the bottom end of low tide so I needed to work quickly up the beach for the Milky Way shooting before the sun filled the sky with light.

Last week's camping trip to the Ten Thousand Islands didn't go as planned, in fact it was disastrous. The winter storm that blew in late Wednesday nearly destroyed my campsite blowing everything over and putting water in my tent that is supposed to keep me dry. It beached my boat about 10 feet up on shore and half filled the boat with salt water.

The Milky Way shooting was phenomenal, even though the moon was full.Ya just need to know when to go out and shoot.
