This kind lady not only gave me the history of this old farmstead but was kind enough to pose for this image. She is a volunteer and dresses up in clothing for the time period of the late 1800's to early 1900's. This cabin as was all of the structures on this reconstructed farmstead was donated to the National Park Service in the mid 1950's by the surviving family of the original builders of many of the structures here.
Each building or structure on this farmstead was dismantled and categorized then relocated and rebuilt to depict the early life on a farm in this time period.

BTW, if you like a bit of humor of the things that have happened to me over the years on some of my photo adventures, try reading some of the stories in my Blog. I've just added the last two adventures that happened many years ago. Just waiting for the next humorous adventure to arrive.
I'm sure there must have been a couple of events that happened out of the ordinarily while some other photo adventures, but trying to remember back. 15 years now is a real task. But when I do I will write them up and post to my Blog.

This little trap door that is letting in the shaft of light is used to draw in outside air for the fireplace. The front door (normally closed in the winter) was open to allow ambient light, which was supplemented by fill flash.

One of the most photographed old grists mills on the planet. I have made several attempts to get to this mill but failed. So this trip was far enough north to make it a "for sure stop" on my way back to Florida. I made it just in time for a late afternoon photo shoot and then stayed the night nearby to come back in the morning. I had hoped for full fall colors here but t was too early....and snow would have been most welcomed.

I really liked this relocated farmstead. The park service did a very good authenic job in dismantling the orginal structures and numbering the pieces and then rebuilding them at this location. With the great grandchildren's help with the history and preservation of the old artifacts in and around the structures, this is a must see when passing through. I just made it by a couple of days,as this location closes during the winter. The relocation and reconstruction took place back in the mid 50's of this late 1800's farmstead.
