My last day in the Smoky Mtns. (Townsend, TN.) was to look for a decent sunrise. It was a very heavy overcast and drizzling rainy morning, one in which most would just stay inside by the fireplace. Sunrise was impossible that morning but many images such as this were made instead.

This image made in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park on my last day there. I wanted another sunrise image and of course it rained that morning and heavy fog which ruined any chance for a sunrise. So the rain gear came out and the macro lens went on and I began seeking the smaller image within the larger scene. Raindrops always makes a mundane closeup image come to life for me anyway, and so I waled around in the wet forest and made about a dozen or so images similar to this while trying to keep the camera and lens dry.

And BTW, if you like a bit of humor of the things that have happened to me over the years on some of my photo adventures, try reading some of the stories in my Blog. I've just added the last two adventures that happened many years ago. Just waiting for the next humorous adventure to arrive.

The actual date on this image was in 04, but since I didn't join Flickr until 06 that is the date Flickr used.

This is a water powered grits grinding mill, which is still an operating mill today by the national park service. The wooden water sluice channel dumps water, that is diverted from a nearby creek, onto the top of the large wooden wheel.

This is the largest barn in Cades Cove and has several very old farm implements.
