Of all the National Parks and Monuments that I went to on this 4 month photo/camping trip to the Four Corners region, Capitol Reef NP offered for me much better images and places to go and is very high on my list of places to return for both photography and camping.
.
Although my truck at that time did not have 4 WD, there were many places that I could not make it to. I doubt it now that returning here will be possible, but I carry with me many fond memories of this beautiful National Park.

Originally built in 1882 by Elijah Cutler Behunin and his family for only a brief time, as rising river waters washed out his much needed crops.
Originally he and his family on ten lived in this one room mud/brick and dirt floor cabin. But as the childred began to grow, father, mother, and the two smallest children slept inside the cabin. By widening a dugout in the cliff behind the cabin the older boys made a place to sleep. The girls made a bed in an old wagon buckboard outside.
The Behunin's were some of the first settlers in this area, other than the Anasazi Indian culture.

I made use of a true 24 mm lens to find a location with a nice FG for this tall rock formation. The formations here in Capitol Reef are a site to see, and to imagine all of this and the entire Colorado Plato was at one time under water… covered by a Hugh ocean. It is amazing to see how all of the different rock formation materials worked together in the eroding process to form some of the most spectacular scenic sites I have ever seen before.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Capitol Reef NP was by far the finest NP that I went to on my 4 month western tour. Not only was the campground the best, with the hugh shade trees filled with hummers, the Chuckers came right into my site and the yellow-bellied marmonts were plentiful as were the mule deer.
This park is so spread out that my 9 days there just began to touch on what is there to see and photograph. I only wished that I had 4WD to take advantage of the back country and all of Cathedral Valley and the Middle Desert area. But I'm told that even 4WD in the wet season around the bentonite fields can be pretty slippery. I was lucky to get through part of it after a sudden early season summer shower.
This place has it all.

The lighting here in the narrows ia probable a lot like the slot canyons, in that the light bounches back and forth on the really tall walls. This allows shooting nearly throughout the entire day.
