When we went to ST. Augustine last month we camped at Anastasia Island SP,which very close to the Atlantic ocean. A short boardwalk up and over the sand dunes is the beach. These wooden fences are put up to help control sand erosion and sea oats are planted as well. Not much in the way of clouds when a cool front moves through Florida.

Well, from my geological map of Capitol Reef, The story behind the scenery by Virgil and Helen Olson that I purchased in the visitors center, this formation appears to be about 190 to 230 million years old and was in the Triassic period. Now that folks is a long time. If this location is correct, there was approximately 6400 ft of various layers of sediment on top of this layer with an ocean above it compressing all of those various sand sediment into what is today rock.

I found this area of Utah to be most impressive in showing all of the different sediment layers. And to sit back and just think about what it took to make this land mass into what we see today.

If you have not be to this area of the of the mid west called the Colorado Platue, I would highly recommend coming here. The three major National Parks, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion all give a good representation of what 250 million years can do to a planet we call Mother Earth.

I still manage too find a few gems in my old folder from my Maine trip back in 2008. This location was found by quite accident. My GPS was guiding me by the shortest route to the nearest awl-Mart Supercenter. The reason was that I had a blowout on my front wheel drive van front right tire on an Interstate. This could have been a very hairy incident,as doing that kind of speed and have a complete blowout is not for the faint at heart. But I managed to get off the road, replace the tire with one of those small donut tires…hence the resin for the GPS finding the shortest route. Well, I guess it did but by nearly every back country road it could find and those roads were full of pot holes…that could have been another hairy moment. Instead I turn a bend in the road and found this. It actually is a town location Named Washington,NH…named after…you guess it, George Washington. The original town was incorporated in 1776. BTW, I did make it to Wal-Mart later that day,and since my van was converted into my overnight home for this trip..I spent that night as Wal-Mart Residence Inn.

This photo adventure was to photograph moose on a lake in northern Maine with fall colors around the lake. When I got there, this same situation on a majority of the colorful leaves had already fallen. It did make for some nice scenery around the many small streams in Maine. If you want to see some of these images go to the album entitled "Mainely Fall Moose".
