Update 16th February 2015
I am absolutely thrilled to say that this image won Outdoor Photographer of the Year 2014 yesterday. Still can't believe it :)

Update 14th January 2015
I am delighted to announce that my image ‘Iceland: End of Time’ has been chosen as the ‘Light on the Land’ category winner in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition. This international competition received well over 10,000 entries and to be chosen as one of the six adult class category winners is simply a ‘wow’ moment for me. The overall winner of the competition will be announced live on the Outdoor Photography Photobox stage at the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show at London Excel on 15th February 2015. That winner will head off on a money-can’t-buy-it adventure of a lifetime on the epic Fjällräven Polar dogsled expedition across the Scandinavian Arctic in April. Fingers-crossed big-time!!! :D

An alternative version of the End of Days shot. This was taken about a minute earlier. Slightly different angle and focal length means there is no flare, but also the light on the mountains isn't quite so dramatic. I prefer the sky and right hand side midground better here though, and Hatfell too. Which do you prefer?

where did he appear from?
Fetterless and expressionless.
Pausing from mediating between gods and humans,
why did he walk into my viewfinder?
To compose himself in otherwise an incomplete picture?
A picture that I was about to record empty.
What did his unseen grin say?
A grin with a circular gaze, so boundless and infinite
Who sees it all?
Varuna has but a thousand eyes
Indra a hundred
And I, only two!
