I love martial arts movies, and after we saw the 1973 Japanese Pinku film “Sex and Fury” at a local theater in February, I decided to do a “Cherry Blossom Samurai” photoshoot in March. After working weeks setting it up, the cherry tree blossoms were peaking in downtown Portland, but the day before the shoot, the model had to cancel flying to Portland because her city just locked down for the coronavirus.

With things easing up, I used the props and costumes to shoot along the same theme with my neighbor.

We did the photoshoot at Rocky Butte Park, which has a building that looks a little like a castle.

More of the Samurai cosplay photoshoot I did with my neighbor recently.

The view from Rocky Butte Park here is one of the best in Portland. On clear days, you can see Mount Hood and a couple of other mountains, but on this morning, we had to settle for a gorgeous view of the Columbia River.

I really pushed the processing here into fantasy, but thought it fit the theme.

Samurai cosplay photoshoot with my neighbor at Rocky Butte, which was a jail, then a military academy. The location is so perfect, it almost looks like a composited castle, imo.

Samurai cosplay with my neighbor at Rocky Butte Park. The model and the 'fort' are a single image, but the sky was blown out, so I replaced it with this fantasy sky. Having pushed it that far, I said, "What the hell, let's add rain."
