Bad Water Basin, Death Valley, California. The basin is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. The evaporated salt dries in these strange hexagonal shapes.
One of the first raw pictures I've taken with my new Pixel cellphone.

Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley early on a winter morning.
I got-up at 4:00am and drove an hour to shoot the dunes at sunrise. I had worried that walking in the dunes would be difficult (some are 100ft tall), but the sand was compacted and easy to cross.
After visiting Death Valley a couple of times, IMO shooting Death Valley is difficult. Most shots depend on perfect light which only might happen 20 min a day (at different times for most locations, so that's good). There is almost never any foreground, not even an interesting rock. Most shots have to be layered, abstract or panos. Distances are crazy (the park is half the size of New Hampshire) and services are very limited. Crowds can be insane at the popular locations.
Having said that, I'm going back again next year, if I can, and shoot the Bad Water blue hour and Milky Way shots I missed this year :).

Abandoned homestead in the desert near Garlock, California.
This place was my favorite abandoned place I'd seen in over a year.
