this is the first CAT towing/recovery truck I've ever seen and it is one big bad machine. The 85 ton crane says "Rollovers make our boom stick up". Take a good look at the tires, particularly the front ones. Those are some of the biggest I've ever seen on a truck like this. Amazing vehicle, but I have to wonder why CAT decided to get into the big truck business given the established competition from the likes of Peterbilt, KW, Freightliner, Volvo, International, Mack etc.

I don't normally take pictures of trucks this new unless I think there is something unusual about them. You don't see many CAT trucks on the road because they only made them for a short period of time. I was told that there are around three of them in this area, but this is the only one I saw.

Seen on "Touch a Truck Day" held at the Sharonville Convention Center in the Sharonville suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Caterpillar has long made motors for big trucks, but is now getting into building trucks themselves. This is a hydrovac truck. My understanding is that they are used to clean out jammed sewers and big drain lines.

There were tons of little kids (future truckers and firemen) at the event which I'm sure was fun for them, but made getting clean shots difficult. They got to get into cabs where the big deal was honking the horns.

Taken in the Sharonville suburb of Cincinnati. Caterpillar fairly recently began to make trucks so, you don't see many on the road. I think this is the first CAT dump truck I've seen.

Caterpillar made trucks for a very short period of time. I was surprised and pleased to see that this junkyard actually had two of them in a fleet that was considerably larger than I expected. They had lots of bins around like the one mounted on this truck. I guess they do a bigger business than I knew about.
