Note the brick street. I've seen some alleys in this general area that are paved with wood that looks like vertical 2x4 ends. The problem with brick streets comes when they have to make repairs. As you can see in this shot, they don't use bricks in the repairs, so you end up with a patchwork. I happen to live on as brick street myself that was full of patches. When they replaced the old gas, water and sewer lines, they actually paved the road using new bricks which was a major job. Apparently some folks in the neighborhood knew the right buttons to push to get bricks. Unfortunately, they aren't as nice as the old ones.
