This sapsucker has been coming to the yard the last few days. They are regulars in the neighborhood but are not in the yard as often as I would like, which is too bad because they are a beautiful and charismatic species--probably our most beautiful year-round resident. They do drill wells in our plum and cherry trees and in some kind of pine/fir tree in the front yard, but they only use each set of wells sporadically. In the summer they sometimes come to bathe in the pond or fountains, which makes for great photos if you can catch them in the act. This one is the first I have ever seen that visits a suet feeder.
