This was taken during our last Wednesday evening walk, in September. We couldn't quite see the sunset from this position, but I loved the light on the windows.

Our poor old pier, rusting away into the sea! If only someone would care for it properly like they do in Brighton and Eastbourne!

At the beginning of November the Pier was completely closed and fenced off by Portsmouth City Council as it was a danger to the Public. A couple of days later, the council let the only the front of the pier open. These included part of the arcade and other bits which are actually on land.

In December 2012 an attempt to sell the pier at auction failed.

The view is close to the bench in the last shot I uploaded. Here I'm looking westward towards Old Portsmouth, Clarence Pier and Gosport. You can see Portsmouth War Memorial, Spinnaker Tower and the Lipstick Tower apartments (and I think the masts of HMS Warrior are in the shot).

West Bay is a small resort just south of the town of Bridport and as it's just a little over a mile from the road we travel west on, we regularly choose it as a lunch stop - much more attractive than a service station (not that you pass many!) or layby! We've even had a holiday in an apartment there, as we liked it so much. Here is a little info about the place, that you may have seen on TV:

West Bay beach was used in the introduction to the BBC television series The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and for location filming in the television series Harbour Lights. The town, harbour, and beach were used as locations in the 2013 ITV series Broadchurch. The West Bay and Bridport area experienced an increase in visitor numbers following transmission of Broadchurch; in one survey of sixty tourism-related local businesses, over three-quarters of respondents stated that trade had increased in 2013, and nearly half of these attributed this to Broadchurch.Very short portions of the second and third series were also filmed in the area.
